Our
Symantec Consumer Products Support Policy

Effective December 2005, Great Cove Technologies will no longer provide
support for the installation of consumer security products from
Symantec such as Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet
Security.
This policy has become necessary because of the numerous problems with
these applications, and the lack of information available from Symantec
to troubleshoot these problems. Installation of these
products,
even by skilled technicians, can take hours - making it impossible to
provide cost-effective service to our customers.
However, Great Cove Technologies will provide assistance with the
removal of these programs, and the installation of comparable products
from other software vendors. Also, we will continue to
provide
installation services for the corporate versions of Symantec products.
We urge our customers to consider virus-protection products provided by
companies other than Symantec. Our favorite is AVG, which is free for
home use and available from free.grisoft.com.
A version for
business use is available for purchase from www.grisoft.com.
We also recommend customers stay away from the McAfee line of
products. Although these have been somewhat more reliable
than
Symantec's consumer products, they are also known to cause costly
installation problems.
Lastly, it is important that computer users recognize that virus
protection software alone will not prevent all types of attacks from
viruses and malware. Because of the large number of new
viruses
appearing each day, it has become impossible for anti-virus software
vendors to keep pace. For that reason, precautionary measures
must be taken by users to protect their computers from
infection.
